Understanding
Copper Purity

What copper grades mean, how testing works, and why transparency matters.

Learn about copper purity, common grades, testing methods and our approach to verified composition at Maldon Copper Co.

The Basics

What Does 99.9% Copper Mean?

Copper purity describes how much of the metal is copper, with the remainder made up of very small amounts of other elements.

For example, 99.9% copper typically means 999 parts copper per 1000 parts, with opu to 0.1% consisting of other elements such as oxygen, silver or trace metals.

Our Position

Our purity-verifier copper bars are currently in development.

We do not yet have certified test results for products on sale.

We will only state a specific purity once independent testing has been completed.

The Character of Hand-Poured Copper

Hand-poured copper bars are individually cast rather than mass-produced to an identical appearance. Small variations in texture, colour and surface finish are part of their appeal. Our original collection will focus on attractive copper ingots with a classic finish, ideal for collectors, displays and gifting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions

Answered

If you have any questions then please read our FAQ's and contact us if you have any more.

Where can I buy copper bars in the UK?

Maldon Copper Co. is preparing an online collection of hand-poured copper bars and ingots for UK customers. Our first release is currently in development. You can join our waiting list to receive availability updates.

Are your copper bars made from solid copper?

Our planned products are solid cast copper bars rather than copper-plated items. The precise material composition of each finished range will be described once production specifications and any relevant testing have been confirmed.

What is the difference between hand-poured and purity-verified copper bars?

Hand-poured describes the way a bar is produced, while purity-verified means its material composition has been independently tested. A bar can be both hand-poured and purity-verified. Our two collections distinguish our standard range from products with additional testing documentation.

Will your copper bars be 99.9% pure?

We're investigating independently verified copper products. We won't advertise any specific percentage until appropriate laboratory testing has established the composition of the finished material.

What size copper ingots will you sell?

We're investigating independently verified copper products. We won't advertise any specific percentage until appropriate laboratory testing has established the composition of the finished material.

Do copper bars change colour over time?

Yes. Copper naturally reacts with its surroundings and can gradually develop a darker surface or patina. This is a normal characteristic of copper. Appropriate storage and careful handling can help preserve its original appearance.

Do you deliver copper bars throughout the UK?

We intend to offer delivery throughout the UK when the online store launches. Delivery options, charges and any restrictions will be confirmed before customers place orders.

Are copper bars a good investment?

Copper is a widely used industrial metal, but retail copper bars can cost substantially more than their underlying metal value. Market prices can fluctuate and resale is not guaranteed. Our bars are being developed primarily for collectors, makers, displays and gifting rather than as a guaranteed financial investment.

When will Maldon Copper bars be available?
